All about Socially Sam

Hi, if you hadn’t figured it out already, I’m not actually a cartoon character called Socially Sam, I’m an actual real life person by the name of Samantha Martin, but you can call me Sam, only my mother calls me Samantha.

Over the years, I know I only look about 14, but actually I’m not, I’m a fully-fledged grown up, but anyway I digress, I’ve worked in all manner of weird and wonderful places. I’ve gone from waiting tables and pulling pints to managing multi million pound organisations and headed up a few finance departments in-between. For years I worked for other people, some small companies that I learnt a lot from, and some large companies that I learnt a lot about office politics from, all the while chasing and working towards something that I never quite figured out what it was while trying to raise a family and do all the other day to day stuff.

In-between my various day jobs I did the stuff I enjoyed doing. The creative stuff. My heart lay with the funky creative, wordy, blogging, online stuff, and I got to blog for some really cool big name brands that wanted a mother’s point of view. I was even on Twitter right back at the start when Stephen Fry was the Twitter guru with a million followers. Yes just a million and nobody had ever heard of Bieber back then. But my bank balance lay with the monotony of the 9-5 office job crunching other people’s numbers all day.

But the universe has a funny old way of getting you to your right path in you believe in what you want to achieve hard enough (and work for it), and after a series of life throwing me some almighty curve balls, I’d quit the 9-5 and was determined to go it alone. The only problem was, I hadn’t quite figured out what. Which in the end wasn’t such a bad thing because I had to get creative in how I earned a living each day.

So in the beginning of my self-employed journey I had a market stall selling all manner of luxury smelly items (soap, bath bombs, candles etc). I then learnt how to make all those items myself thus increasing the profits, but also increasing my own workload. But this kind of work was very seasonal and I found that I spent most of the none Christmas trade months advising and helping other stall holders with their marketing and all their online stuff. I was using the skills I’d learnt way back when and suddenly I was doing more of that than the actual soap making that was supposed to be my income.

Socially Sam is helping brands and public figures achieve their goals using social media, making them socially famousI quickly realised that the whole social media, online marketing, content marketing industry was a whole different ball game to what was being taught by so called business advisors. And don’t get me started on the self-proclaimed social media expert/gurus that think if you send out 5 sales promotion tweets per day and charge £25 a week for doing it, that makes you the fountain of all knowledge and we should put you on a pedestal for it.

Many small businesses have been fed duff information and have just followed the pack and now don’t understand why their social media presence isn’t generating any business for them. So it got me thinking; what if all these small businesses actually had someone to tell them how it is and what they should actually be doing. Someone that had actually been that small business and really did understand what it’s like, and wasn’t looking at your marketing strategy through corporate, big budget, large marketing teams, rose coloured glasses. Someone that looked at your whole online presence through your eyes with a teeny weeny micro budget.

So can you guess what I did next?

Well first off, I went and got myself educated and made sure I really did know what I was on about, and then I learnt what everyone else was doing, and then I collated all the good stuff, got rid of all the crap and put it all together, updated my own learning near daily as social media changes that quick, and now I offer all my knowledge, creativity and help to you.

Socially Sam was born.

As a business we quickly established helping small businesses all over the world. I even got to travel to far flung places to help clients achieve their goals and to speak about all things social media at events. We then started to attract celebrity and public figure clients needing help to market themselves online and manage their profiles. The Socially Sam business started to expend to offer tailor made services for celebrities and public figures as well as mentorship and consultancy for up and coming social media stars and online influencers.

Socially Famous PR was born

I am now the founder and Managing Director of Socially Famous PR whilst still maintaining my own Socially Sam online media presence to help others who are just starting out with tips and advice and my own take on the world of all things social media.
